EspressoMedic – BEAN HERE NOW – Double Lever Rebuild and Wood Windows Panel Job

BHN-70 copy 2

BHN-11 copy

This coffee booth Bean Here Now Consciousness Cafe got struck by a truck by accident.  The trailer was on a 45degree angle and the machine fell off the counter.  The groups broke and the panels were all cracked.  Panels no longer exist for this model therefore, we made new ones.  This Simonelli was never pretty.  With Astoria manual groups in the front end, and most of the parts now being new, it would be such a shame to cover them up again.  We designed a new look for the same machine.  Working with Barn Barn for carpentry and machining, the wood panels with windows and copper facing modification created a nice finish.

Elektra BelleEpoque Double Brass Eagle

This was a nice repair to get into the shop.  Elektra BelleEpoque Double Brass Volumetric.

It was in need of a good descaling and some wiring and pretty much all the gaskets.

This kind of looks like a picture of nothing, but there is suppose to be a VacuumBreaker there, not a bolt.  It was nice to go through the whole machine and get things sorted right.

And voila!  A fully descaled boiler.

Shop Humour:

And that was the last Breville to ever enter my shop, never again, screw you Breville.

Ok ok, just one more. (and the last Saeco to be allowed into my shop as well, ever)

Pavoni Professional, Rebuild

This Pavoni Professional came in.  What a mess.  Besides needing a good descaling, a new switch, pressure-stat and gaskets, the piston stem was defected…  It must be the wrong grade of metal somehow as it got pitted by something in the water.

After alot of elbow grease and new parts, this machine is as good as new.

Elektra MicroCasa, 45 years old.

This nice Elektra MicroCasa came in.  Very tarnished.  Needed a new element, a full descaling, a new light and some piston rings and gaskets.  A bit of elbow grease on the polish just for fun.  Total billed: 2hours.

DSCF3746.1DSCF3746A bunch of home levers came in at the same time.  These look nice.DSCF3729 DSCF3730 DSCF3733 DSCF3735 DSCF3736 DSCF3737 DSCF3741                 I think this was a bread bag.  This boiler gets quite hot.

This section took alot of elbow grease.

DSCF3810 DSCF3814 DSCF3902                 Well, that’s not too good.

I guess we are going to have to find a new piston spring.

Now we just have to locate acquire a new spring.

More to come…

la Pavoni Professional, piston stem leak.

DSCF3708This machine was apparently just over a year old.  The piston stem leaked alot and the group got covered in scale.  The stem is pitted as if the grade of the metal is different and something in the water corroded it.  The pressure-stat was also sticking.  Changed mostly all gaskets.  Descaled. fixed leaks, replaced piston stem.  Needed new switch.  Polished brass and copper.  Patina was removed overall except for the base rim.  Steam knob got sanded re-glued and varnished.  Total billed: 2 hours.

A few things we’ve been working on these weeks…

Well let’s see here.  Someone brought in a 45 years old Elektra MicroCasa and a la Pavoni Professional in very bad shape.  An Ecm Raffaelo came in for an element and a descaling.  We acquired a Gaggia, a Cafe Roma and a Mokita.  2 NuovaSimonelli ElliMatics came in at the same time, it’s so weird sometimes.  We are rebuilding a Faema Compact that was for sale.  A la Pavoni CrossRoads came in for diags.  And a NuovaSimonelli Premier came in with the grinder, because it just smells and tastes foul…  With repairs at a bunch of cafes, we are quite busy this month.

A friend wanted this machine up to par.  In the end we rebuilt the whole machine.

Faema Home Machine Repair

 Faema Amica2

Amazing vintage 220V.  This machine just would have needed a little descaling.  But after being stored, with water in it… it was frozen.  Two boiler fastening tabs broke off.  Need new boiler.  Actually found one at Genius Coffee’nEspresso, $88, not bad, complete with element.  Descale remainder parts, reassemble.  The steam of this thing is uncomparably powerful.  Quoted one hour, billed one hour.
